My passion is medicine.
I have been interested in medicine since childhood. This curiosity began, when I saw my loved one die before my eyes. My love of science is just one of my reasons for choosing medicine. My decision to study medicine has been strengthened by my enjoyment and success in both Honors Biology, Honors Biomedical, and Chemistry. The aspects which fascinate me most about medicine are being able to help and care for people with the understanding of sophisticated processes which happen within the human body. I enjoy a challenge, and with a career in medicine it can be enormously gratifying, highlighted by the doctors I have spoken to during my experience and on a personal level. Furthermore medicine would suit me as a person because of the ever developing new scientific discoveries, medicine has reached an endless scope with unlimited possibilities which would fulfill my prospects in life.
When a HOSA (future health professionals) student chapter was created at Brien McMahon High School last year, Kenniece immediately joined the organization. One of the emerging organization's first major projects was to organize a first-ever health fair to be held at the school, with the goal of inviting local agencies and businesses that were committed to addressing the physical and/or mental health needs of the community in various capacities. Kenniece was instrumental in contacting, inviting and convincing individuals representing these groups to attend the fair and educate and inform Brien McMahon students about their services. Partly as a result, at the end of the school year she was voted vice president of the HOSA chapter, a leadership responsibility she takes very seriously.
I am going to be participating in the NYFL Medicine program this summer. I am really excited to be joining the program because it will give me the time to find out what I really want to be. I feel that in school, there aren't many opportunities explore your future career, so, for me, studying outside of school is the only way to do it. I think that this program will help me develop ideas of my future journey! I am very nervous but I know that I will have some fun!
This program was the best program I have ever attended! After long nights of studying, meeting new friends, visiting colleges, I finally decided that i was not going to sell myself short and become a nurse, I will be a OB/GYN. Coming up to that conclusion was difficult, but attending that program and listening to my advisers and other doctors, really encouraged me in following my dreams.
Never stop reaching for your goals!
