My passion is becoming a doctor.
I grew up in a family who never had what they wanted but cherished the little they had. My mother grew up in Ghana. She cherished education and was the first to go to college in her family. She graduated from college, got a job, and came to America. Although she gave up many dreams for me and my siblings, she continued to excel, working as a medical assistant in Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for ten years. My passion for medicine comes from seeing my mother work hard, and I want to work as twice as hard in order to take care of her in the future. I will do whatever it takes to make her proud.
Attending the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine will be my first step. I will finally be exposed to ideas that I've always been curious about. The more I expose my self to medicine, the more comfortable and excited I will be.
"Sandra is a people person. She is kind, friendly, funny, considerate, and would enjoy meeting and networking with the other students at the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine. I also think she would benefit from the hands on experience in the medical field. It will help her select a more specific area to study within the medical field."
This was such an amazing program to attend for 9 days. Not only did I meet amazing people, but I explored an amazing campus. I never really knew what it would take to become a doctor until I actually went to this program. This program has taught me the importance of determination, focus, and time management. Being a doctor requires patience and a sense of humor! No one wants to have a doctor who is moody all the time. I learned how to preform CPR, watched a live, open knee surgery, and stood next to deceased people! Although it was sometimes hard to wake up early to go to lectures and come back to my dorm extremely late, the food was extremely good! I met peers who shared the same interest as me and learned a lot from most of them. We even switched numbers, Snapchats, and I received at least 20 more Instagram followers! LoL. I'm grateful for this experience --thank you so much!
I am so excited about attending NYFL MEDICINE! I cant wait to experience hands-on projects and do what I have been always been passionate about doing. This will be such a great experience for me, and it will help me find a prominent distinction in the medical area.
