Evelyn's Story

My passion is understanding the world around me.

When I was about eight years old, my third grade teacher took my class on a field trip to the Long Beach Aquarium introducing us to new species of animals, plants, and interesting information. This is what stimulated my interest in marine life and made me realize how much I really didn’t know about the world I live in and as I attended other adventurous field trips such as hiking at the Angeles National Forest, visiting the California Science Center, and various other sites that has opened up my curiosity to the natural world.

By attending SEACAMP, I would be able to explore my passion of being knowledgeable of the world around me to a greater extent. Marine life has always been a great interest of mine from the first time I was ever introduced to it, which is another one of the main reasons why this program stood out to me. Living in an urban community such as Boyle Heights has only allowed me to touch the surface of knowledge about my environment, and while reading books and articles of the subject is useful, by attending SEACAMP, I will then learn through a more hands on experience in exploring this subject thus gaining comprehensive knowledge towards marine life.
