My passion is to succeed.
At a young stage in my life, I was taught to cherish and appreciate hard work. Then, I had two hardworking parents who were determined to provide a bright future for me. I was a perfectionist, determined to give only the best representation of myself. Now that I am in my junior year, I am grateful to have learned the value of hard work at an early age.
I am extraordinarily excited by the prospect of developing my passion to succeed by attending One-Week Summer College at Ithaca. I hope to gain many skills from this program that will refine my abilities as a writer as well as a thinker. Moreover, the people I will meet and engage with throughout this summer program will help me improve my communication skills.
I have encountered adversity throughout my life, but the biggest obstacle that I still have not overcome is the death of my father. His passing taught me to become self reliant and depend on my mother less, considering all the responsibilities she inherited due to his death. Three years later, I have become a stronger person. Ultimately, my passion to succeed is driven by my father's hard work. I would like to be able to make him proud of my accomplishments.
"Samantha has always demonstrated extraordinary effort and a desire to achieve academic excellence. She chose to enroll in Honors English 11 this year, which includes college level analytical readings in addition to the regular coursework.
Samantha is exceptionally mature and thoughtful. She exudes optimism and enthusiasm. Her infectious positivity will make her a wonderful addition to the Wishbone community. Samantha will benefit profoundly from the opportunity to pursue her passions within a network of similarly dedicated people."
I am so grateful for being able to attend the Ithaca's one week summer program. I had a blast the entire week and I met an abundance of people that I made life long memories with! I took a course called American Gangster for the entire week. I attended this class twice a day, in the morning and in the afternoon. Although at times the work seemed extremely rigorous, it was worth it. I learned so much about society's interpretations about gangs and the impact they have had on America. I developed a strong interest in this topic and might even consider studying it in college! I adapted to college life extremely fast and can't wait to experience it next year! Aside from taking classes, my program had a lot of activities planned for us. We had plenty of opportunities to socialize with each other and explore Ithaca, New York! My residential advisors were extremely nice and approachable. Overall, I had a blast and will apply to Ithaca for college!
This summer, I am going to attend Ithaca's One Week Summer Program. I will be taking a class called "American Gangster." I selected this class for multiple reasons. Not only did the name catch my attention, but I have a passion for history. History has always been my strongest subject in school. I thought it would be intriguing to learn about America's history with gang violence and the impact it still has today. I am so excited to be attending this program! I am most looking forward to experiencing how dorm life is, that way I can get a sense of what to expect when I attend college in 2016. I am a very social person and I hope to meet an abundance of people and make friendships with people that might even last a lifetime. In addition, I want to learn more about Ithaca and they type of college that it is since it is on my college list. Over all, I know that I will have a lot of fun and am grateful for Wishbone for making it possible for me to attend this program. I hope to share my experience with others!
