My passion is leadership.
Since I was a 3 year old child, I saw my mom involved in leadership groups to improve our community. She inspired me to care for others. I live in a low income area where there are few opportunities in all aspects. I was encouraged to participate in littering and graffiti clean up, Christmas gift distribution, and neighborhood events. As I grew up, I became more realistic of the suffering of people and the fact the giving to others will make me stronger. It made me want to be a more focused student who wants to pursue a college career. I think that learning more about leadership will strength my passion.
Attending The National Leadership Program will help me explore my passion and develop my talents. Being enrolled in a demanding college prep school, I put a lot of time into my school work, and not enough into my passion. I think that attending the program will allow me to learn how to expand my knowledge in leadership.
"Melanie copes in an academically rigorous environment by slowing down and taking her work and assignments in small chunks. She seems to understand that, when faced with seemingly overwhelming pressures, they are nonetheless, finite. Her continued academic success is an example of how Melanie can overcome obstacles. I believe she will excel at the National Teen Leadership Program as she pursues an interest outside of the academic confines."
I went to my program this past weekend and it was great. I saw some friends that I haven't seen in a while that came from a school back home and I also made some new friends. The speakers that were there were great and the workshops they had showed us some new leadership skills. The camp left a happy feeling in me and I would definitely go again since I loved it.
I'm going to be attending the National Teen Leadership Program at Sacramento State University this summer. I'm excited to do this program because it will show me how to be a better leader and help me with my leadership skills.
I'm looking forward to being at a university and being part of this program. It will be nice to be with other people that share my passion to be a leader. I think that participating in this program can help me be a better leader in school and my community.
