My passion is debate and leadership.
Throughout my short life, I have grown up in an environment that feels inferior to others. I was raised around people who were too scared to speak their minds and fight for what they believe in. As a result of this, I am motivated to fill the void. I feel the need to be the strong voice for those individuals who fear speaking up. Additionally, I believe that through my voice I can help others find their passions and values in my community. Developing my passion will allow me to advocate for others and teach them to advocate for themselves.
I believe that the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institute will help me develop my passion for debate and leadership in various ways. Attending this program will give me the opportunity to voice my opinions about issues I am deeply passionate about, learn how develop my claim in stronger ways, and put myself in real life situations where my leadership skills will be challenged. I feel that through the Summer Institute at Stanford, I will learn how to lead and argue in a professional manner.
"I believe the wide range of program options at Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institute will allow Krystal to explore various topics. Krystal has often expressed that she feels strongly about many different subjects, but has yet to find her true passion. During this summer, I imagine Krystal will meet many likeminded individuals and be forced to confront new ideas. Through leaving Richmond, Krystal will experience other communities and types of people. This will begin her development towards college."
The three weeks I was at Stanford were beyond incredible. Studying Sociology on the beautiful campus of Stanford has opened my eyes to the flaws and injustices within our current and past societies. But, it has also exposed me to the progress our society is making towards the acceptance of what is now becoming common or the social norm. During my stay, I fell in love with the beautiful campus and interesting course, andI could not help but fall in love with the people I have met throughout my stay. I've learned a lot from the people I have met and have grown closer and closer to them as the days passed. In just those three weeks, I have met some people who I now know will forever be my best friends. Those three weeks at Stanford were one of the best times in my life and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Thank you so much for all that helped make my dream of attending Stanford for the summer a reality. Your kindness and generosity are something I will not forget, especially in the three weeks I will be at Stanford. Thank you all once again!
