My passion is medicine.
I discovered my passion for medicine when I saw a commercial for the hospital, Saint Jude, which was trying to find donors for kids with cancer. From then, I wanted to become a doctor who specializes in cancer. Later on, I entered middle school and gained more knowledge about medicine and different types of majors within it. Once I entered high school, I had a straight concept of what I really wanted to major in: pre-med.
Harvard Pre-College Program will help me pursue my passion for medicine because not only is Harvard University ranked #2 in top universities but their medical school is highly ranked. The program will help me get an introduction to college life and attend classes that will challenge me.
Lizbeth Aguilar is a good candidate for Harvard Pre-College Program because she is a student who would fully commit to this program and its requirements. The program will help her acclimate to on-campus life. One important benefit would be Lizbeth learning the responsibility of being in college and how to manage classes and extracurricular activities. She will learn how to be independent and be fully responsible for her education.
Harvard Summer School Program was absolutely amazing!!!! The two weeks that I spent there will forever be unforgettable and will always remember the friendships I made and hope that one day I will be able to see them again. The class that I took "Culture of Medicine" is taught throughout a semester and for the two weeks that I went to the Summer Program, I was taught the class in two weeks. Meaning all the work and homework given out in that semester I had to complete in two weeks. The homework took about 5 hours to complete due to having to read 40-60 pages of readings a night! But this was able to give me an insight of work actual college student have and the effort needed to accomplish the whole task. Even though throughout the two weeks there was a lot of work to be done there was time to have fun and explore Cambridge and Massachusetts. Harvard Summer School Program gave the students activities to do throughout the two weeks of staying at Harvard. For example, I went to the following activities and they all were given for different things, I went to Canobie Lake Amusement Park and comedy show Shear Madness for entertainment activities. I went The Psychology of Colorblindness and The Science of Happiness for Academic Exploration. I also went to college readiness class which were Finacial Aid and Finding Your Learning Style. The whole two weeks were amazing and would redo them all over again!
I will be participating in The Culture of Medicine course this summer at Harvard. I believe this program will help me build my knowledge on Medicine and know more of it's background. This program is an opportunity that is really important to me and being able to develop my knowledge in Medicine is awesome. I chose this program because Medicine has always been a passion of mine to major in. Working with the professors and other students in my course will help me get advice on other programs, classes or something that will help me pursue and strengthen my passion for Medicine. Hopefully after this program I will know whether Medicine is a major I would like to pursue or not.
GOOD LUCK!
