My passion is marketing and economics.
When I was about 10, I desperately wanted an XBOX 360. At the time, however, my dad refused to get me one claiming that if I really wanted it, I’d work for it. To me this seemed illogical because no one hires 10 year olds. Despite this, I came up with a plan to sell candy in my school. I asked my dad for a small loan of 20 dollars to buy a jumbo pack of popular candy bars and surprisingly the next day of school, I sold out and had to restock on my goods later that day. Ever since that first experience of seeing the concept of supply and demand come to life, going out to advertise my product, and of course the thrill of making all my money back and profit, I have developed a passion for the concept of how an economy functions. Even now as a high school student I sell sandwiches to raise money for programs that I wish to participate in.
By attending the Ithaca: Capital Market Investing program, I hope to expand my knowledge of the marketing world and further expound on my perception of the global or sectional economy. While building on things that I have already known, I also seek to endeavor on a learning experience of new fields within the range of Economics and other money related careers like finding out how companies reach consumers in the stock market. Outside of the classroom, I look forward to learning new things from my peers and learn about the different communities they come from. In the world of business, it is always good to be able to relate with your customers and colleagues to further build a good relationship with them with trust. By participating in the program, I believe that I would be one step closer to my future goal of obtaining a Masters in marketing, economics, or business.
Isaiah is always very eager to take on new learning opportunities. The summer after his freshman year he studied at Brown University and this past summer was a member of Harlem Youth Court. In both of these experiences, he was one of the youngest participants and never shied away from a challenge or hard work. As a member of the Harlem Youth Court, Isaiah would help to educate youth in the Harlem community on their rights while dealing with legal issues as well as when they are approached by law enforcement. He wanted to ensure that his peers were equipped with the know how to deal with difficult situations in an informed manner so that they were able to protect themselves against maltreatment. Isaiah has a passion for helping others because he is cognizant of the disparities that exist within our world, especially those affecting low income communities of color. As a resident of the Bronx, Isaiah has witnessed injustices that have fueled his desire to learn and give back. He wants to not only actively change the harsh realities that he faces every day, but wants to be an example to his peers. He sees the world from a perspective that is wise beyond his years and I believe will continue to thrive in all future endeavors he takes one.
