My passion is to one day go to college and give back to my parents.
Since as long as I can remember, my main passion has been to graduate college and give back to my parents. I want them to see me graduate so they can know all the work they did was worth it. Graduating, however is just part of it, the other part is to try to buy my parents a home that's outside of Richmond. I want to give them a life that they have worked for and a life they deserve.
Outward Bound California will give me the opportunity to explore the world and get used to being away from home so I can apply to college and feel comfortable with new people. This program will help me experience life outside of Richmond in order to see how different communities and people behave. Outward Bound will push me out of my comfort zone, which will help me in the future when I apply to colleges that may be far from home.
"Cristian is very likable, respectful, and kind. Meeting new people will be challenging (as it is for anyone), but Cristian is excited to do so. He wants to push himself, and Outward Bound is the perfect opportunity for him to try something new, be active, and learn more about himself and the world around him. This will undoubtedly influence him as he begins to apply to college next year and considers applying to schools that may be farther from home with a student body that looks very different from ours at LPS Richmond."
Outward Bound was such a memorable experience. Even though I was one of the only Hispanics there, I felt comfortable with my group members. On this trip we had to carry huge backpacks while hiking several miles each days. This trip really pushed me physically and mentally, but I stuck through it and and surpassed my own expectations. In the beginning, I really thought it was going to be a walk in the park but on the first day of hiking I really began to have second thoughts. Through the challenges I was able to reflect on who I was as a person. In the program we climbed two peaks. On the first peak, I was super scared and one of the last to make it. I thought that I was not going to be capable of doing a second one, but by the end of the second one I was one of the first to the top and climbed a peak called Electra that was over 12,000 feet tall. This program really helped me overcome personal adversities and it helped me appreciate the things I have at home. I feel like this program really improved my social and leadership skills, and I also made some new friends. This program really had a big impact on me, and it is an experience I will never forget.
I am really excited and looking forward to attending Outward Bound. I chose to apply to Outward Bound because I really wanted to do something outside during the summer. Since Outward Bound includes backpacking, this was a great choice that filled my needs for this summer. Outward Bound will really push me to overcome adversities both physically and mentally. Also, this program will help me improve my leadership skills as well as my social skills. I am really looking forward to being outside in the mountains and getting away from technology. This program will help me enjoy what nature gives us by limiting the technology I use. Overall, I am looking forward to a memorable experience with Outward Bound.
