My passion is fashion design.
Ever since I was about 13 years old, I wanted to separate myself from the way other people do things. I grew tired of seeing all the other kids around me wanting to do the same thing, or dressing the same way. This is why I started to take an interest in fashion. Not just because the clothing may have looked nice, or that it was made by a certain designer, but that it was a way that I could be an outlier and set a trend that would show others that this is my way of expressing how I feel and you should find yours.
Being able to attend Parsons will not only allow me to gain more experience with fashion design but it will introduce me to everything else that makes design what it is. This includes all of the other courses such as graphic design and digital media art. Also, attending Parsons Pre-College Academy will allow me to learn from experts or people that are the best in their fields in order to push my level of thinking and be innovative. It will be the best way for me to learn the skills that I need to better prepare myself for the future. Additionally, I would leave the Academy knowing more about different types of fabrics and garments that will deepen my understanding of fashion design as a whole.
Raheem truly evokes the spirit of a young scholar, who dreams without boundaries!
At our school there is no fashion, or fashion-related programming. As a matter of fact, we have an extremely strict uniform code, which (I can imagine) prevents students like Raheem from expressing desire for fashionable trends. I do believe where Raheem gets to demonstrate a little bit of his love for a "different look," is in the way he carries himself. It is in the way Raheem exudes himself that altogether enables him to stand out from the crowd of students who can sometimes blend together within the coat of "student body."
Raheem walks with purpose, seeks to be known for his diligence and speaks with eloquence and caution. He is detail oriented in his work, knows when to ask for help and treats others with the respect he hopes to be reciprocated. So even though Raheem has not had the chance to practice fashion design, he has all of the qualities and innate characteristics of a successful and committed young man with a "no excuses" approach to his work. Passion will drive Raheem to pursue his dreams, but his personality will catapult him to a successful career in whatever he chooses to do.
Raheem, cannot WAIT to see what you accomplish this summer. I want to hear all about it!
