Cindy's Story

My passion is writing.
I began writing the stories my parents have told me and about the quirks and dynamics of a Vietnamese-American household. I began to write outside of my own life, often short stories and poems. I applied and was accepted to ACES Educational Center for the Arts, a half day arts school in New Haven as a creative writing major. This was my first exposure to other writers, and I continue to learn and love writing as I share my work with others.

Education Unlimited Emerging Writers Institute will offer me further exposure to different works of writing. The workshops will introduce more voices than the circle of people I am used to at ECA. Listening to other aspiring writers will help me develop my work. I believe that I will feel a sense of belonging in a community of writers and that the experience would cultivate my passion. I especially look forward to the short story and poetry seminars because this would strengthen my understanding and writing of the genres.
