My passion is stories.
As a little kid, my mom would always take the time to read bed time stories to me. She would also bring me to a bookstore whenever she had the chance. I always loved looking through the books on the bookshelf and predicting what their stories were going to be about based off their covers. When we came home from the bookstore, I would hurriedly sit on my bed and start reading.
After I migrated to the United States three years ago, I used books to as my asylum from the real world. I was bullied and made fun of for simply being an immigrant. Making friends and connecting with people at my school was very difficult for me due to the language barrier. Since I had a hard time adapting to the new culture and customs that America offered, I read a lot of books in order to get away from anything and everything that was bothering me.
Movies are visual representations of stories. I think that movies are better at presenting characters' emotions, which is also the reason why people become attached to movies--they can relate to the characters on an emotional level. This is what I want to do when I grow up. I want to make a film where the audience can completely relate to a character or connect to a scene. I want them to know that if a character can go through whatever obstacle that they face in the movie, then they are more than capable of facing theirs. I want the audience to use my movies as asylums or a little paradise, just like how I used books and stories as mine.
The Academy of Art Summer Pre-College Art Experience will help me decide whether or not I really want to pursue film making as my career. It will also be a great chance to make connections with people who may one day assist me with my future.
"Aeon is a little ball of creativity and knowledge despite the fact that her life experience out matches that of many adults. Aeon needs this opportunity to express her ideas and explore her interest in becoming a director to truly see if this is the direction she wants to take her life.
Aeon would be a perfect director: she is hard working and persistent. She is not afraid to tell others what to do nor is she opposed to receiving feedback and trying out a new approach. I think this program would be an excellent experience for Aeon to share her story and explore a career option. I can't recommend Aeon enough."
This summer, I attended a photography class and sculpture class at the Academy of Art University at San Francisco. In my photography class, we were given homework assignments twice a week such as taking pictures of people with interesting backgrounds, diptychs, triptychs, etc. We only had a limited amount of time to have our pictures, so that really pushed us to work on our skills as photographers. Our teacher, Kent Marshall, showed us how to use the settings in our cameras and how to use lighting to our advantage. Also, Kent took us on a small field trip around the city so we could learn how to have different point of views in order to create interesting and original images. Moreover, in Earl Enriquez’s class, we worked on two sculptures. We were assigned to pick one character from a movie or a show and make a figure of their head. Another was to pick another character and make their torsos. At the end of the program, we had an art exhibition where all the students’ work was displayed in order for friends and family to come see them. Furthermore, I had to commute in and out of the city through BART and AAU’s free shuttle system, which was terrifying and exciting at the same time. I learned a lot about myself during the time span of 6 weeks. I learned to be independent and how to manage my time. Not only that, I experienced what a college setting was like and I found a new perspective to my surroundings.
This summer, I am excited to be exposed to a new world. I am in awe that I have been given a chance to further explore the arts category. I love the arts because I am able to craft my own story. I am able to express myself in a way that others will never understand. It is a different form of discourse for me. In my eyes, I see myself crafting my own future. My future is in my own hands, and no one can take that away from me. I am grateful to be given the opportunity to learn in a college campus with a new group of peers and bring what I have to the table. I always had people who doubted me in my life, but my supporters came in roaring louder. For example, my best friend Vicky, and my adviser Mr. Keating always reminded me in tough times, that I am filled with potential and creativity. Once again, I am so thankful for helping me come closer to my goals. I am thrilled to see myself grow not only as a person, but also as a leader and an artist because I know that I can only get better through practice and structural criticism. I cannot wait to show my friends, family, and donors what I will produce by the end of the summer
Thank you so much for donating to our campaign to send Aeon to her arts summer program. Thanks to your donations, the campaign was a success, and she will now have an opportunity to pursue her passion for directing movies. I know that Aeon will put her all into this opportunity, and carry this experience with Wishbone with her forever. I am so thrilled that I was able to help my student in this way, and I could not have done it without your participation. Thank you!
