Horacio's Story

My passion is basketball.

Basketball is my passion because it brings me joy. I did not even ponder the thought of playing the sport until the 8th grade, and I fell in love when I first started playing. When I reached high school, I was cut from the JV team and was devastated. I decided to work as hard as possible, and I made the team the next year. I feel like Nike Basketball Camp will help me take my game to the next level so that I can become the best I can be.

In my community, many young men play basketball, and some have been playing before I got started. Until now, I haven't had any opportunities to attend a basketball camp. With the help of the Nike camp, it's possible that I won't ever be cut from a team ever again. This opportunity will give me an edge on my competition.

"Horacio is passionate about basketball but does not have access to quality coaching or organized basketball teams. He has generally only played in playgrounds or an overcrowded recreation center. Our school created its first basketball team this year, so Horacio has not had an opportunity to develop his skills in an organized setting. The chance to attend the Nike camp would mean the world to him and introduce him to high level coaching."

Nike Basketball Camp @ Baruch College

I would like to begin by thanking all of the donors who made this possible. Attending Nike Basketball Camp was a unique experience that I will never forget. After the four, hard work-filled days, I left with many new skills and regimens that I to this day still use. This experience was an opportunity for me to learn and improve my skills and I am once again grateful.

Excited for Nike Basketball Camp

I chose to attend this program because basketball is my passion. This may sound cliche but it is true. Outside of my rigorous course work, basketball is the only thing I spend my time on. I play every chance I get. I fell in love with basketball from the first time I played it. Nike Basketball camp will allow me to improve my skills and get to the next level in order to maybe compete with the best one day. This is one of the few opportunities, outside of personal workouts, that I have to improve my game in a controlled environment along with top notch coaches.
