I have had an interest in chemistry for as long as I can remember. My father is a high school chemistry teacher, so it has always been a big part of my life. I have so many memories of his fantastic experiments. However, the cause of these reactions I never knew until last year when I took chemistry for the first time. Last year my Chem teacher, Ms. Gajecki, taught me what chemistry was really about. Learning about the composition of compounds and the reasons why different elements react and bond expanded my horizons. Learning to calculate heat transferred and pressure of a gas in relation to its temperature made me want to learn even more.
Attending Yale Young Global Scholars will help me to expand my horizons further than what my high school currently has to offer. In addition, I will be able to work with peers who share my passion for the advancement of society through chemical and mathematical means. The experience Yale offers will not only push me to excel in Chem but also put me in an environment similar to what I will experience in college. This early exposure will prepare me for the academic rigor to come. My goal is to gain critical thinking abilities that will help me in the future.
Cameron's knowledge in chemistry has even amazed me as a teacher. He always thinks outside of the box and helps other students with complicated topics. Cameron is a thoughtful, intelligent, hardworking and self-motivated person who is eager to learn more about the sciences. In particular, one field of science he is very interested in is chemistry. Outside of school, he has pursued this hunger to learn more about fascinating and current topics in science. He has taken it upon himself to help me and the chemistry department as a lab technician, where Cameron spends some of his free time in his hectic schedule making specific solutions to be used in lab experiments. We have had many talks about his future aspirations and goals as well as how he turn these dreams into reality. He exhibits focus and determination. It is because of Cameron's ability to work diligently in the classroom, willingness to lead and his character that I believe his future is bright and will be able to succeed wherever he furthers his education or passion. As a teacher is almost impossible to challenge Cameron with chemistry topics. His knowledge and analysis of chemistry is beyond high school spectrum as well as first year of college therefore he is an excellent candidate for Yale Young Global Scholars.
Congratulations!
