Aranza's Story

My passion is biology.

I discovered my passion for biology by just realizing that I love learning about organisms around us. Ever since I was young, I have always read books about animals. Years later, I continue to read articles about organisms and facts about them. I have a desire to better our environment and sustain as many natural resources as we can to help organisms.

Attending Camp SEA Lab Voyage Seaward would expand more of my knowledge of biology and my options if I want a career in this field. This is also a great opportunity to meet new people who may have the same interests as I do.

A Note from Ms. Shieh, Aranza's Counselor

Aranza, like the students that apply to summer opportunities through Wishbone, has had limited access to opportunities for her to explore and advance academic and professional development outside of school. Within her own network at KIPP King Collegiate High School, there are few students that have participated in programs such as Camp SEA Lab that are not only academically rigorous, but challenge families to consider the weight of what it means to have students explore their academic, professional, and personal development in areas not close to home.

After Camp Sea Lab

My level of interest has increased more now that I got through my program. I learned more about the importance of organisms in our ocean and careers that are connected to Biology. The possibilities are beyond from what I had imagined. It made me realize the roles we take up in affecting wildlife. In addition to the new knowledge, I got to experience meeting new people within these 4 days. By the time it was the 3rd day, we became close. This further encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone: talking to new people and without having electronics. I will continue my path to trying new things and exploring the major of biology in my future.

Update on Camp Sea Lab summer program

I am going to be participating in Camp Sea Lamb this summer and I am excited to continue on this journey to explore the various opportunities I will have. I want to be able to dive deeper into biology especially marine biology since I am curious about the major.

I am looking forward to being open to this new experience including meeting new people. This chance will allow me to know what I what in a career in my future.
