My passion is music. I have been involved in music ever since I was born. There is always some type of music playing at my house. I am currently involved in the marching, concert, and jazz bands at my school. I play the marching baritone horn during the marching season, and I play the trombone for both concert and jazz band. I am also in one of my school's select choir and concert choir. Both the jazz and select choir attend the Berklee Jazz Festival in Boston, Massachusetts. Without music, I don't know who or what I would be. Music has changed and shaped my life in a greater way than I could ever imagine. I would like my passion for music to stay with me throughout my life, and if I am able to do that, then I will have accomplished a life goal.
Attending the Litchfield Jazz Camp will help me pursue my passion for music because it will help me for college auditions as I plan on applying to a school of music. It will also help me with becoming a better performer overall. I know that this is a very good music program as I have heard good things from friends who have attended it and my band director who highly recommended it to me. Attending this program will help me in all areas of my music career and passion.
Litchfield Jazz Camp would be a great program for Luke. It would allow him to learn about jazz improv, ensemble playing and theory - all areas in which he is interested.
Luke has been very interested in music and his instrumental playing. He takes band, jazz ensemble and music theory classes and he is very dedicated to pursuing his passion in this area. He has spent time in the summer at Tanglewood working backstage at the performance facility. He is currently a trombone and baritone player in our groups at school.
I just recently got home from camp and I had so much fun during the past week. It feels like so long ago that my parents dropped me off but in reality, it was just over a week ago. I have learned so many things about jazz and improvising over the past week. I better understand that when improvising, you need to play notes within the chord changes in the tune that you're playing and that, even if you get a wrong note, it's okay because that's what improvisation is. For all the audience knows, it could be something you intended. The amount of friends I have made who all love to make music and actually enjoy doing so is incredible. I met people from all over the country and several people from Bermuda! They told me that everyone thinks Bermuda is in the Caribbean or the Bahamas, but its about 650 miles off the coast of North Carolina! My teachers were from all over the country as well! All of my teachers are masters at what they do and give exquisite instruction to all they teach. They are also able to teach players of all ages to make sure that they understand what they are being told. All in all, I had one of the best experiences at a camp ever! I would totally go again if I had the chance!
