My passion is Architecture.
When I was growing up in Guatemala, I did not have money for toys or other things that required money. Instead of playing with toys, I always found myself drawing and building things out of mud and sticks. I always found myself happy and satisfied while doing such things. When I came to the U.S., having art classes added to my interest in architecture and engineering. I work hard every day to chase this dream I have. I work hard in school and at work to overcome this obstacle. I am always willing to learn for my own benefit as well as for my mom.
I have done some research on Boston University and I am rather interested in their Architectural Studies course. By going to Boston University this summer, I believe most of my answers will be answered and this will be very helpful. It will help me develop my ideas and benefit me by giving me a unique college experience.Getting such opportunity will definitely help me explore and live my passion.
Carlos and I met upon his acceptance into STEER for Student Athletes, a non-profit organization, which aims to help at-risk high school student-athletes achieve the ultimate goal of attending college. Carlos has a strong head on his shoulders and has never lost sight of his end goal - college and providing a better future for himself and his family. Carlos has exceeded all expectations with his commitment on the soccer field and classroom. He attends all program meetings, holds a part-time job, and is looking into volunteering in the community in his "spare" time. Carlos is truly a role model to his peers and someone who will take advantage and truly benefit from the this opportunity. He is an example to his peers and the kind of kid every parent and teacher hopes for. I think he will love Boston, a city which he has never visited, and have a great experience living on campus and experiencing college.
Attending Boston University this summer was life changing. They provided me with many tools which I can now use to be a better version of myself. I made many new friends and learned a lot about different cultures through them. The teachers were understanding and were always there when I needed help. During my time at Boston I learned that being independent is really important and that time management is crucial when you have so many distractions around you.
I met a lot of people who taught me to be myself and follow my dreams. The kids I met were extremely respectful and taught me to have fun while being responsible. At BU I also learned to appreciate every single moment because the experience doesn't last forever. The teachers at Boston University gave me confidence and forced to me think and work beyond my limits. Having friends from different backgrounds also expanded my horizons. I tried food I had never tried before and I engaged in activities I thought I would never try. I also learned to manage my money more efficiently this summer at Boston University. This summer was truly life changing.
Good luck!
