My passion is leadership development.
I discovered my passion for Leadership Development through my initial and instant love for community service. The volunteer work I find myself most drawn to focusses on the mentoring of younger youth. I love working with students who have obvious potential, but maybe lack the guidance and motivation to realize it. With a vacancy for a leadership role in their lives, I look to fill that spot. I hope to help guide the upcoming generation by encouraging them to pursue successful lives.
Attending the Brown Leadership Institute will not only allow me to pursue my passion, but will enable me to help educate those around me. With leadership, there comes responsibility, and this program will help me become an advocate and leader in my own community. I want to bring these skills back to those whom I mentor, and I know that I will be better prepared for my own future.
Tatiana is the most self-motivated, driven student I have ever had the privilege to work with. She not only takes advantage of every opportunity offered, but seeks these prospects out herself and looks for leadership roles within them. Her school only offers two AP courses. Tatiana is currently taking AP History, with an “A” average for first quarter, and she will take AP English next year. She is currently looking into on-line college courses and she is working with the administrators at her school in an effort to provide more opportunities for honors students. She is a member of various clubs at school, runs track in the spring, manages the basketball team and works weekend early morning shifts at Dunkin’ Donuts. Tatiana is always looking to better herself and the world around her and I am confident that she will.
My experience at Brown was life changing! I had the chance to learn and work alongside the Dean of Students at the university, Mary-Grace Almandrez. She not only taught me about society's view on women but she showed me that I, too, as a women have so much power and the ways I can channel that as a positive force within my community. My time at Brown allowed me to see the world in a different light. It also gave me friends i'm sure I will have for a lifetime and made me acutely aware of the characteristics I want within a college.
I am going to be participating in the Brown Leadership Institute this summer. I am excited to be attending this program because I believe with the recent issues happening in this country it is very important to have these discussions that contain arguments and other view points beyond the ones in our community. Leadership is a quality that is much needed in our society and our country. I feel attending this program will help encourage others to become leaders and have the conversations that no one is willing to have.
I am looking forward to collaborating my ideas with other young adults my age who share the same interests, ideas, and beliefs. By taking their perspective into consideration I am not only advancing my self but my community when I share with them the things I have learned during this program. I hope to gain friends and intimate knowledge of leadership, character, and how they contribute to how we run society.
Tatiana - Congratulations, you made it! Admire the initiative you've shown in pursuing this leadership program. Enjoy it!
