My passion is helping others.
I'm passionate about helping others because I have hopes of one day becoming a doctor or a nurse. I discovered this passion when my mother gave birth to my little brother. That's when I received the responsibilities of being a big sister. I had to take care of him every time I was given the opportunity to babysit. I also discovered this passion when my grandma got sick and couldn't really move around as she should. When that happened, I took it upon myself to always be there for her.
Attending Brown Pre-College would help me explore my passion because it would help me decide what I would like to study in college or what profession I would like to look into. It would also help me get out of comfort zone when it comes to meeting new people because in my community there aren't enough chances to make social networks. Attending Brown Pre-College would give me the college experience I need prior to my dream of one day attending an Ivy League school, and Brown is on that list! The rigor of the classes I hope to attend at Brown Pre-College would give me a glimpse of what it's like to one day attend Brown University.
Angel Charles is a wonderful enigma - she blends into all situations, those familiar to her and those entirely foreign - with ease, confidence and flexibility. This confidence translates into her natural ability to ask clarifying questions, to probe and to learn. Angel will attend a four-year college, but the earlier she gains exposure, the more confident she will be upon matriculating officially. No matter her passion right now, she will need top notch undergraduate and graduate programming to ensure her success. The Brown Pre-College Program will serve as Angel's first real introduction to a top tier research institution, with faculty and peers from all over the world and experts in all different fields. This exposure will permit Angel to immerse herself for three weeks in the "life of a college student" at an elite institution, not unlike the kind she seeks to fulfill her liberal arts requirements.
I'm really excited to spend a part of my summer at Brown and to actually experience what it's like to be a college student.
