My passion is learning.
Ever since I was little, my parents have taught me that hard work pays off. I cherish my ability to learn because I go to a high school where most students have successful and wealthy parents. My parents come from a different background, and I am fortunate enough to get financial aid and a scholarship to attend my school. I want to learn so I can have a better life than my parents were able to have. My success will be my form of gratitude to my parents.
My hobbies include food, nutrition, and fitness, and I hope to one day have a business which incorporates all of my hobbies. Attending the Entrepreneurs-in-Training program will help me build a foundation in the field of business and get a feel for what it takes to be the founder and head of a company.
"After learning more about the Wishbone program, I could not think of a better candidate than Tiffany. She is a true self-starter and fierce leader. Since Tiffany has had such diverse and widespread experiences and perspectives, she will be able to bring this unique skill set to the challenges that come with attending the Entrepreneurs-in-Training program. This, coupled with her positive attitude, makes Tiffany the perfect fit for teamwork, professionalism, and completing projects on or before deadline."
Barnard was an experience of a lifetime. First off, I fell in love with New York because of the city's diversity and exuberating vibe. During Barnard's Entrepreneurs-in-Training program I got to learn about different sectors of business, visit start ups founded by women, and meet amazing, talented, inspirational women. The two program leaders, Michaela and Nathalie, are absolutely super women; Nathalie sold her first website when she was 19 and Michaela produced a show on Broadway -- they we inspirations to everyone. In the 11 day program we visited Hanky Panky Factory and Headquarters, Etsy, and Levo League where we were surrounded by powerful women. The Barnard pre college program also offers "excursions," which were field trips apart from the one your own program had, and I took advantage of those to watch two Broadway shows: Something Rotten and Matilda. Our classes lasted from nine in the morning to five in the evening and after that we had free time. I took advantage of New York's melting pot of foods and tried many famous, worthwhile food spots. I went sightseeing and shopping in New York's hip shopping spot, Soho. But, I didn't just sightsee and eat, because during class we were hard at work due to the density of the curriculum. The program ended with the creation of our own start-up. My group decided to start a grocery store which delivers freshly prepared meals to middle-low income families. On the last day, we pitched our idea to "investors" and it was amazing to see our hard work pay off like that. I came in to Barnard as a shy girl and I came out as an independent, brave entrepreneur. Leaving was the worst part but I am happy to have went to Barnard.
I want to thank the magnificent and generous donors who provided the necessary funds for me to attend a rigorous and beneficial summer program. On June 29th, I will start the Entreprenuers-in-Training program at Barnard College in New York. I am both excited and nervous for this experience because I have never been that far away from home, but I will learn necessary terms and tools which will help me in the future. This 11 day residential program introduces females to the world of business. We will have classes on marketing and economics and take field trips to startups to learn about their success as entrepreneurs. A major project during the program will be the creation of a startup. We will be divided into groups to brainstorm and work together. We will have mentors, college professors, and business students helping us form and pitch a creative innovation. Besides learning how to become an entrepreneur, we will also explore the city of New York, Barnard college, and Columbia University. I've always wanted to visit New York, and this program gives me the opportunity to explore my passion. Thank you again for your donations. Without the necessary funds I could not have the opportunity to explore my passion this early in life.
