Storytelling is a wonderful experience for me. It’s not just writing on paper, its speech, and film, it is any form of art that expresses your feelings. Storytellers are the people that make your imaginations become your reality. They help you escape from your everyday struggle in your life and just embrace who you truly are. I want to become a storyteller like Pamela Lynn Travers the Author of the Mary Poppins series. She inspired me to unleash my imagination and begin to find inspiration and become mesmerized with the world around me.
Nia longs for activities and projects that she finds meaningful. An extracurricular program will give her something positive to which she can devote her energy and talents.
I really would like to thank Wishbone, my advocate, and all of my donors for giving me this opportunity. I went to skid more college to learn, and I left with an amazing experience. So to start, I took two classes in religion and culture with Professor Davis. He was an amazing professor who gave me more of an appreciation for different cultures and their belief in life. I enjoyed meeting new people (as the pictures below show) including all of the college students I talked to. I met these two resident assistances that I talked to about Skidmore. They helped me received my first college interview!
One of the hardest and more challenging parts at Skidmore where the tests I took throughout the program. I learned a lot from them and feel more prepared for when I do go to college. Sometimes, studying took forever! I found different study strategies, like from the picture below where I taped my notes on the wall. At the end of the day, I am going to miss Saratoga and Skidmore (until I get in of course). I have never been more inspired than I have attending my program. Skidmore gave me a summer that I will never forget. Thank you very much for your support!
After getting my parents comfortable enough to leave me alone, I finally made it to Skidmore! I met two girls already but have yet to meet my roommate. It’s pretty good so far and I can tell I’m going to like my fellow classmate as far as first impression go.
Tomorrow begins my first day of class. I am super excited. I went to a cultural event watching a one-woman Jewish autobiography off-Broadway musical. I think I know where my classes are for tomorrow. I am super excited! This is so different than anything I have ever done before. This is a breath of fresh air, literally. There is close to no pollution and my school is environmentally friendly. I saw a chipmunk and it may sound crazy, but it is these little things that make me love it so far. The picture is of me with my official Skidmore ID and poster in my dorm.
I am excited about getting my first ever college experiences in a pre college program; just by sitting in an actual college class knowing I finally made it. I am determined to get as much out of the college experience and becoming more dedicated in my work and studies. Although it is nerve wracking that I won't see my family and I am in a new place , it is also thrilling. The fear is the doubt that I have that I am not smart enough for the classes I am taking and that I won't be able to catch up with others. However, I know that if I made it this far I know I am a quarter way there, which makes my determination even greater.
I would like to thank you for helping me accomplish my dreams of not only getting a glimpse of the college life, but as well helping me with the building blocks with mastering my profession. People like you make me see there is truly good in the world, who invest and support other peoples' dreams and passions.

Hi Nia:
I am so anxious for you to reach and obtain most of your endeavors because you are a phenomenal young lady. One who is caring and classy. One who is able to empathize with those of lesser means. One who I am almost as proud to one day pass the gauntlet as your parents are. You will be a stellar part of the next generation to give back like the adults your higher power has placed in your path the light the way.
One last thing:
Don't ever stop being GRATEFUL for all you have or all you experience - the good and the bad - and you will never want for anything. I can guarantee this.
Love, Ms. Carole
