My passion is my educational development.
Ever since I was a little kid, I have always sought out ways to expose myself to new ideas. When I would find out about opportunities to enhance my learning, I would apply because I feel that ignorance is not bliss. I want to be aware of the world around me, and if someone is talking about something, I want to be able to join in on the conversation.
By attending the Blueprint Summer at Lehigh University program, I will have the opportunity to further expand my educational development. Living on a college campus would support my transition from high school to college, especially since I am graduating in a year. This program would also give me a sense of what college classes and curriculum are like, so that I can better prepare before applying to college. If selected for this program, I would choose to study criminal justice, which would help further my goal of becoming a criminal defense lawyer.
"Malika not only excels in her classes; she is constantly seeking additional opportunities for continued growth and learning outside of the classroom. For example, Malika has participated in the Junior Statesmen of America program at our school since her 9th grade year. As an active member of our JSA Chapter, she has attended multiple conventions and tournaments in New York, Boston, and Washington, DC. This year, we nominated Malika to represent our school as JSA Chapter President, and I have had the pleasure of seeing her truly blossom in this role.
Malika is an excellent candidate for Wishbone and the Blueprint Summer at Lehigh University because she has a true passion for learning. She has demonstrated that she can thrive and be successful in any environment, and I believe that she would bring her best self to Blueprint Summer at Lehigh University. As a self-identified lover of learning, Malika would benefit greatly from the opportunity to learn alongside equally engaged and motivated students from around the country."
Over the summer I had an amazing opportunity to attend Blueprint Summer at Lehigh University. I was able to make friends and have a unique summer experience. The counselors at Blueprint were one of a kind, and they made sure that campers were always entertained. My favorite activity that the counselors set up for us was the trash bag fashion show, where we had to construct outfits made of trash bags, tape, aluminum foil and rope. I was able to take courses in Psychology and Business, which helped me decide what major I want to pursue in college. At Blueprint, I was able to make some amazing friends that I would not have made elsewhere. This would not have been possible without the help of my sponsors, Blueprint, and Wishbone.
The program I will be attending is BluePrint Summer at Lehigh. I chose this program because I felt that it would help reassure myself about the classes I want to take in college. I was able to pick both business and psychology which are two areas of study that I am looking forward to taking in college. I also thought that the timing would be perfect; I am a rising senior, and going to BluePrint will give me an idea of what college is going to feel like. I am looking forward to going to college classes and making new friends to last a life time.
