My passion is science and technology.
I first became interested in science and technology when I began doing experiments in fifth grade. In Ms. McCormick’s class, I carried out experiments like creating ramps, working with dry ice, testing chemical reactions, and working with jelly beans. Since then, my passion for science has continued to grow.
I will develop this passion by attending Discover Hopkins because this program will make me want to further my knowledge of a subject I am very interested in. Attending this program won’t only help me learn more about science, it will give me a head start on becoming a pediatrician.
The biggest obstacle that I've faced is being from Nigeria and not being able to have the same educational opportunity as others. In a country like Nigeria, there aren't very much opportunities for children to attend school, which was a huge set back. I have overcome this huge obstacle by moving to the U.S, where I have had numerous opportunities to have a better education.
"Omowunmi would be a good candidate for Discover Hopkins because she would be a role model to other students and participants of the program. She shows zest and grit for any task set ahead of her, and her determination encourages other students to be more like her. Omowunmi would benefit from participating by having exposure to students from different backgrounds. The diversity that many students experience in high school is unfortunately not a part of her experience, and it would give her access to a new perspective and make her more well rounded."
I absolutely loved my experience at Discover Hopkins. I met new people and gained new knowledge that will stay with me forever. While I was at the program, I took a course in "The History of Hospitals" in which I learned how hospitals and healthcare today has both changed and stayed the same compared with the past. Some other things I did while I was at the program were go on field trips with my class to the Johns Hopkins Hospital and other various museums. When I was less busy, I explored the city of Baltimore and even took a trip with my new friends to Washington D.C. Everyone at the program was so kind and welcoming. I made friends from places like Miami, Missouri, Colorado, Hong Kong, Honduras, Canada, New Jersey, and California. Some inspiring people that I met while I was at the program were medical doctors and my professor, who taught me everything that there is to know about hospitals. Some valuable lessons that I learned at the program are that when things get tough, giving up is not an option because I can always work harder to reach my goal. I also learned that time management is important, and if I want to be able to do things I need to manage my time wisely. Finally, I learned to always appreciate things no matter how small they might be. I want to thank my donors for giving me the opportunity to attend such a life changing program where I met new people that I now call friends. Without you, I wouldn’t have been able to attend my program. I also want to thank Wishbone for supporting and helping me get where I went to this summer. I hope I get to do this again next year, experience new things, meet new people and gain more knowledge in the hospital field. Thank You!
This summer, I will be attending Discover Hopkins at the University of Johns Hopkins. I choose to attend this program because it offers a very interesting and productive program on health and medical knowledge. This program drew my attention because my goal in life is to one day become a pediatrician and take care of people, so I know that attending this program will help me fulfill that dream.
During my time at Johns Hopkins, I am looking forward to becoming even more involved in the field I want to pursue. I am also looking forward to meeting new people and getting to experience what it feels like to be away from home. This program will really help me break out of my shell of shyness and talk to new
people more. Thank you to all the donors who helped make my dream a reality.
