My passion is engineering and technology.
Attending the National Youth Leadership Forum on Engineering & Technology will allow me to develop my passion for engineering and technology by helping me explore the subject matter alongside students with the same passion.
I was born in Oakland but raised in Richmond. I attend one of the best schools in Richmond, but growing up in a place where education is not a priority has made it hard to keep myself on the right track. Knowing I have my parents and brother to help me in every single day has helped me accomplish many things. My dream is to have a good life with a good job and then come back and help my community.
"Erik's dedication to pursuing his goal of attending college has been very impressive. As an 11th grader, Erik has stepped up and shown a ton of grit and maturity with the college process, particularly in comparison to some of his peers. Erik was one of the first students in his advisory to register for both the PSAT and SAT and is currently working hard on an application to visit schools in Southern California with his LPS peers.
Erik will benefit tremendously from the National Youth Leadership Forum on Engineering and Technology. Erik has not had exposure to life on a college campus and has had limited opportunities to expand his horizons. Through the program, Erik will have the opportunity to bond with motivated and passionate peers while experiencing the culture of a college campus. This has the potential to be a life changing experience for him."
First of all, I want to thank everyone who gave me the opportunity to have an amazing experience at this summer program. Before this summer program, I was nervous and afraid that I was not going to fit in with all the rest of the students in the program, but then after a few days the people in my group became like a little family and we all got along with each other. Throughout the program, there were times where I thought to myself, "I'm not smart enough for this," but I got through it successfully and I really enjoyed the experience I had at the program.
