My passion is coding.
I discovered my passion for coding when I was in elementary school. As a child, I never really understood how to use a computer to a point where I didn't know what a computer was. As I got older, everyone started to know a lot more about computers. Because of this, I wanted to be like everyone else and learn how to use a computer. I was able to learn the basics of how to use a computer, and finally I was able to get my own laptop. With this, I had access to so much more information. I was introduced to a game called Roblox. On this program, I wanted to make a game. While making this game, I realized that it never got to it's full potential because I did not do any scripting, thus fueling my eagerness to learn to code.
Beyond his proclivity towards coding and game design, one pivotal element of the iD Tech Camps SF Bay Area that I find a natural fit for Oscar is its classroom design, which emphasizes human connection and small group settings. As the iD Tech Camp information page suggests, "students [at iD Tech Camps] experience personalized learning with a maximum of 8 students per instructor." Oscar is a student who thrives in small-group environments such as this, familiarizing himself with his instructors in a way that creates a natural bond. He is quick to learn names, ask questions, and build camaraderie with his instructors, myself as one living example.
Oscar is a student without regular access to small group instruction for such things as coding and game design, which makes the iD Tech Camp a truly unique opportunity for this young man. While certainly resourceful enough to seek out instruction via the internet or other freeware, it is the human relationships of iD Tech Camps that I believe open Oscar's eyes to his potential as a coder.
I would like to thank all who helped make this summer possible. I really enjoyed being in my summer program. It's all thanks to you! You made it possible. I am very thankful for this great opportunity. My summer program was iD tech camp and thanks to all of you i was able to participate and have a great time there. I learned how to code and also made a few new friends.
I am going to be participating in the Python coding in ID tech. I am excited to attend this program because I've been introduced to coding once before but I've never been able to go learn about it in depth. This is the first time I will be able to learn how to code and it is very exciting to me. Participating in this program would help me fully understand how to code instead of just telling me it's complicated. It would also help me in learning different types of skills like problem solving and determination.
Go change the world, Oscar!
Oscar's face lit up when he told me about how excited he was for this opportunity! I'm looking forward to him telling me all about his experience-- you deserve it, Oscar! I'm very proud of you! -Ms. Jauregui
I, for one, bow to our new computer overlords!
You can do it, Oscar!
I love to see hardworking students reach their potential. Never give up!
