My passion is forensic science.
I discovered my passion when I was about eleven years old. I remember watching shows like CSI: Miami, Bones, and NCIS. I recall buying a board game that had many murder mysteries to solve. I spent countless hours playing it. Now that I am older, I understand that these shows are mostly fiction, but I am intrigued by how science can be used to catch criminals. Every time I watch these shows I wish that I was a forensic scientist. In the shows I see that the characters spend most of their time in a lab and I know exactly what that feels like. Last summer, I spent two weeks in a lab studying the red blood cell and I enjoyed every moment of it. As a high school student, I can eagerly say that my passion is forensic science. I want to use science to help catch criminals. I want to make a difference in the world and being a forensic scientist will allow me to do that.
Attending Blueprint Summer at UCLA will help me explore my passion. I will be able to fully experience what it is like to be a forensic scientist, and spend more time in a lab to gain hands-on experience with lab equipment. Additionally, I will learn skills that will be valuable to me in the future. One of the biggest obstacles that I have overcome in school is my fear of public speaking. During my sophomore and junior year I have pushed myself to participate in all of the class discussions and presented multiple times in front of the class. Getting over my fear of public speaking has been able to boost my confidence because now I have created a positive environment for myself and my peers. Blueprint Summer at UCLA will help guide me towards a career I plan on pursuing.
Alexis is truly maximizing her high school experience. She has managed to create a robust academic and extra-curricular life for herself. I am her Advanced Placement Language teacher as well as her adviser for Youth Business Alliance, which is an after school program. I have seen her give her all in both of these realms and she truly maximizes the experiences. Our small charter school provides Alexis with many opportunities, most importantly a safe environment to focus on school. However, we cannot provide all of the various electives available at a large comprehensive school.
I can already envision Alexis thriving as a participant in the Blueprint program. She has such intelligence, curiosity and drive when it comes to academics, I am confident that those virtues will be maximized in such an environment. I also think the challenge of working with students and staff from a multitude of backgrounds will be extremely beneficial. A program like Blueprint is the perfect stepping stone to ensure that Alexis becomes a happy, healthy, successful college student.
This summer I had the opportunity to attend a summer program that has impacted my life dramatically. While I was there, I learned about different techniques used to solve crime scenes and why forensic scientists are so important. I also had the opportunity to solve a fake crime scene that some of my classmates created. This program reassured me that Forensic Science is my passion and I am truly grateful that I had the opportunity to attend.
Once again, I would like to thank you for your donations. Without the donations, I would not have been able to attend the summer program. I am very excited for Blueprint Summer at UCLA for forensic Science. Attending this program will allow me to explore my interest, and hopefully my future career. I am looking forward to spending my summer with others who have the same interest as me.

I've heard Alexis stories and she's always shared what an incredibly intelligent young lady you are.
