I discovered my passion for medicine when I was a child. When I was younger and visited the doctor’s office, the nurses would ask what I wanted to be when I grow up. I’ve always told them I am going to be a doctor.
I became even more intrigued by medicine when I started watching shows like House and Grey’s Anatomy. These shows caused me to realize that I want to know more about medicine, because they portrayed how compelling it is to become a doctor and how much more there is to learn about science outside a high school classroom. Attending Centenary Summer Scholars will help me pursue my passion for medicine. This program will offer hands-on medical training opportunities that I hope will help me decide if this is really what I want to do in the future.
Yarhely is a wonderful kid. I believe she is very aware of opportunities that she has daily and makes sure to take advantage of those. I taught Yarhely as a freshman, in a year where many of our students are struggling to find the balance between academic success and the greater freedom they find in high school. Yarhely has a strong sense of herself which is clear from her style, comportment, and the way she communicates. She displays every single day that she has a commitment to her education because she takes herself and her future very seriously. Her time at Centenary Summer Scholars this summer will be another serious step towards her future.
Thank you for the opportunity to be able to enhance my passion in medicine. This summer program made me realize that I actually like doing summer programs and they make me motivated to become a future doctor.
