My passion is criminology.
I started developing a passion for criminology through my AP Psychology class. In this course, a court investigator came to speak to our class. She told the most interesting stories about her past investigations and the type of criminals she got to work with. The thing that most caught my attention was the insanity of all of it. Her stories had me at the edge of my seat, wondering how a person could do such a thing. Her experience in this field inspired me to make a career in criminology.
I will develop my passion by attending UCLA Mock Trial Institute because I will gain experience in the field of law. I am interested in using this opportunity to turn my passion into a career because I don’t just want to throw a bad guy into jail; I want to help rehabilitate them so they can become someone better and safer to our society. I think by understanding how criminals behave and think, we can gain better insight to why crimes are committed and how to best deal with them.
"When discussing Teresa’s passions and potential career interests, she told me that she gained a passion for criminology and criminal science through her psychology course. I think that Teresa is an exemplary candidate for UCLA Mock Trial Institute due to her consistent demonstration of persistence and motivation. In addition, I think that this program would be a great opportunity for Teresa to further develop her passion for criminal science and to gain a glimpse of the real-world experiences that come with this line of work."
I had a great experience at the Mock Trial at UCLA, it was an amazing experience. I made new friends, got to know the campus, and saw a bit of the college experience. I was really nervous at first because I didn't know anyone there, but everything worked out just fine. I got to stay in a dorm and shared it with another girl named Joy. She is from Illinois, and we have many things in common like taste in clothes, working out, and music. I also made friends with my Mock Trial team. In the mock trial we competed with groups among the program. This experience helped me a lot personally because I am a really shy person so it helped me get out more and I got to present what I learned to a crowd. One of the Mock Trial leaders helped me, her name is Fatimah, she helped me practice to preform, learn my lines, and gave me advice. I also learned a lot about law and got to see a small court trial. It really made me more interested in criminology, especially on the law side. I'd like to thank everyone who donated and made this happen, without you i wouldn't have had this amazing experience!
