My passion is tennis.
I started out as a non-athlete when I joined my school's tennis team. In the two years since then, I have overcome my obstacles and developed into one of the school's top players.
Before joining tennis, I considered myself to be lacking a competitive mindset, not athletic, and not able to take things seriously. Becoming part of a team changed my perspective because it forced me to become determined and committed to the sport so I don't let down my teammates. I take challenges to push myself and learn from my mistakes. As a result, I am now more confident and motivated to express who I am.
Attending Nike Tennis camp will help me take my game to the next level by competing with other players, learning amazing new techniques, and living in a college dormitory. This will not just impact me as an individual, it will help my entire team when I share what I learned. I look forward to sharing this experience with other young people and motivating each other to continue following our passions.

While Lucero may not have much formal training in tennis, her passion is clear in her personal statement. In addition to being surrounded by like-minded peers and passionate coaches at Nike Tennis Camp, Lucero will have the chance to live on a college campus during the program. The impact of that environment alone cannot be overstated. Neither of her parents had the opportunity to complete high school, which will make Lucero a first-generation college student. The reality of her aspirations will come into clearer focus through this experience."
I attended the Nike Tennis Camp over the summer. It was an amazing experience and I had such a wonderful time. I learned new tennis methods in volleys, serves, and forehands. I competed with different age levels and ethnicities. I met new people from around the country. We practiced and played more than 30 hours of tennis and exercised intensely. Everyone had their own strategy, and we learned from each other. The coaches were always encouraging and helped us in what we can improve on. Overall, I had lots of fun and I am more confident to return back to the courts.
I am super excited for the trip to Nike Tennis Camp, and I look forward to this opportunity. I chose this program because it will help me gain the experience of professional tennis training. This can benefit me when I demonstrate to other youth how important tennis is for me and inspire them to pursue their own dreams.
