My passion is drawing.
I was in elementary school when I realized my passion for drawing and doing art. At first, I wasn't always good at drawing or coloring but, I realized that if I keep practicing and keep learning more from different teachers and different programs I might get better. When I entered high school, I began to take more advanced art classes and these classes made me realize that I am really good at art and it is something that I want to do in the future. The drawings that I have been working on for the past two years have come out realistic and I never thought that I would be capable of creating.
Attending Appel Farm Arts Camp will help me explore my passion by increasing my knowledge of what art and drawing is and could be. I want to learn about the different careers and jobs my art has to offer in the future. Many people have told me that there are no good jobs that involve people drawing and creating all day and I know that I have to wait until the day I go to college to find out if that is true or not. I also want to learn how to be independent a little more because I know that when I go to college I will have to do everything by myself such as taking care of myself and living alone.
Jessica is in the top percentage of students when it comes to being motivated and trying to overcome many obstacles to take care of herself and do her best in school. She is a serious student who wants to learn everything she can. She is also very kind, sweet, and grateful for every chance she gets. She often redoes her work until it is to her satisfaction. She spends many more hours on some assignments than other students, especially those that involve art.
Jessica would take advantage of every minute at Appel Farm, and enjoy it so very much. She would be able to focus on coursework and bettering herself. It would truly change the course of Jessica's life.
This summer was a life-changing experience for me. I attended Appel Farm Art Camp on June 26, 2016 and got to spend four weeks there. I learned a lot of things about art, met a lot of people from all over, and learned how to be independent.
The classes I took were drawing, painting, sculpture, and abstract drawing. In each of those classes I learned something new and improved my skills. In drawing, I learned how to do scratch art, which is something I have never tried before. It was very difficult scratching the paper and trying to make it form something, but the drawing came out better than I thought.
Another class I took is painting, where I learned how to mix colors with just white, black, red, blue and yellow paint. I never knew we could mix colors like that and it was such a useful skill. Sculpturing is another class I took and this is something I have never done before. I was able to create buildings with cardboard and paper. It was really fun planning and cutting the buildings. Finally, abstract drawing was also another class I have never took before or even heard of. But this class was about making art without actually making anything look like an object. It was difficult for me because I am used to making things look like an object. One of my favorite project that we did was the agamograph where we have a picture on one side and another picture on the other side.
Also at camp I met a lot of new people and made a lot of new friends. I got along really well with my roommates. We also went on field trips such as the Noyes museum in South Jersey where it is filled with local arts from New Jersey. We went to six flags and to the beach. Also being at camp I learned a lot more about myself, which is that I can be independent and can be able to take care of myself. This program was a wonderful experience and I'm so glad that I was able to get out of my comfort zone and be able to discover new things that I could be capable of. I wanted to said thank you to all who have supported me through this process. Without you I would be able to have this experience I will never forget the fun memories and friends I made there.
