My passion is Computer Science.
I discovered my passion when I was in 5th grade and where the learning curriculum was very different from my elementary. I use to hate math in elementary school and I though it was very confusing. In 5th grade the teaching style was different and the teachers explained everything very well which helped be understand math. When I started to understand math I began to find it very interesting and kind of fun. After a while, I began to realize that I want to study math in college and have a career involving math. I started to love working with computers when I attended a summer program in 6th grade working with robots and how they work which made me want to study computer science.
Going to the Brown Pre-College - Summer@Brown will help me explore my passion of computer science by helping me to take college level courses on computer science and know what is expected of me in college. I get to explore more of what I'm passionate about and learn new things about computer science which can give me an edge in the future. It will help me know what studying computer science in college will be like and see if I'm positive that this is the direction I want to go in for sure.
I can think of no other student who would make more of the opportunity to attend Brown Pre-College program than Kizmat. The opportunities that she would be exposed to, attending an ivy league school, meeting new people, learning in an environment that would push her to think in new ways, those are opportunities that Kizmat would relish. Kizmat is the type of student who could end up at a school like Brown, I would love to see her be able to be see what that is like, for her to see what her end goal can and should be. She is incredibly intelligent, curious, and hard working, I am confident that she would thrive at Summer@Brown.
This summer I went to Brown University and I took a course named Biomedical Engineering Systems. In my course, we did many interesting labs. For example, we learned how to use micro pipettes and how to grow algae. Everyday was a college lecture and I had to learn to adapt to the professor's teaching style, which I wasn't used to. This experience was also challenging because I was surrounded by complete strangers and it was hard for me to make new friends and introduce myself to people. However, I came out of my shell and met new people that were very different from me. Living college life was also challenging for me because my parents weren't there with me and I was afraid to be on my own and be independent. I had a challenging first day, but I got used to it and it became easier as time went on. Overall, I had a new and interesting experience at Brown University and it will be something I always remember especially when I'm applying for college!
Over the summer I will be attending Brown University and taking the Engineering and Biomedical systems course. I am very eager to take this course because I will get to learn how biomedical engineers create cartilages that can help protect bone. In my present school, I don’t have the freedom to choose which classes I want to take, so being able to choose a course that I’m interested in makes me excited to go to Brown. Participating in this program will open my eyes to real life situations and teach me new things that may be helpful to me in the future.
I can’t wait to go to Brown and take a course with those who share my interest and passion. In school my favorite classes are math and science. This made me interested in technology and sparked my passion for creating new ideas to make the world a safer and better place.
