My passion is poetry and medicine..
My dad taught me from very young to love medicine. He introduced me to his medical supplies, lectured me on the nature of chromosomes and glucose, and insisted that I read his medical books. I began to unconsciously develop a deep love for science. If I were to become a caretaker, I would use my skills to help those less fortunate than me. Even those who do not live where I am. I want to save lives even if that means risking my own. Through words, I want to open eyes and change lives.
Boston University Summer Challenge will not only give me the chance to become better at my passion but also allow me to discover new ones. As I get older, I begin to wonder if I would have loved science as much as I do if my dad never took it upon himself to promote medicine in my life. I wonder what unexplored passions Boston University might hold for me. As a high school student, it is perfectly normal to have no clue about one's future. However, I have to take it upon myself to dig deep and challenge my character.
"Daniella is extraordinary. She has been defying expectations since she was in elementary school, blowing her teachers and peers away with her work ethic and eloquence.
What Daniella needs is more opportunities. She has all of this passion that she throws into her academics because she knows that is what she needs to do to get into and (eventually) graduate from a top university. What Daniella does not know is what she is inherently passionate about. I think that Boston University Summer Challenge, with its plethora of activities and classes, will set her up to find that inherent drive, that thing that will continue to drive her once the grades have gone away. This program will set her up for a lifetime of success."
I had such an amazing time at BU. I met many awesome people and I experienced a freedom that I think I needed. The days were long and the nights were peaceful. I almost never had any worries. It was like I was in a different world. I enjoyed the fact that I was able to start over and meet new people. I was forced to introduce myself to people, so I think my experience at BU made me more outgoing. There were 300+ kids in my program, and that meant that I met a new person everyday, which I'm not used to at all. Best of all, I got super close with the girls on my floor and we all became best friends. We did everything together from watching scary movies, to dancing in the common room, to going shopping.
My classes were so awesome. I took Abnormal Psychology and Creative Writing. I learned so much! I think I love Abnormal Psychology; it's fascinating! The first day the Program Assistants (or PAs) gave us books we needed for our classes and I was so excited to find out that we got to keep them. Disorders like Schizophrenia and Multiple Personality disorder set my mind on fire; these disorders inspired me to write and write.
I am honestly so glad that I was given the opportunity to attend this program. It was so fun! I enjoyed every moment of it. Thank you again!
I am really excited to be attending Boston University Summer Challenge. I hope that I gain confidence and a newfound perspective on life from my experience there. I look forward to challenging myself by stepping out of my comfort zone; this means using the Wishbone's Scavenger Hunt Challenge and LinkedIn to my advantage. I hope that pushing myself to network and make friends will develop. Above all, I can't wait to live on Boston University's campus. Although I am extremely enthusiastic about attending this summer program, I am also very nervous. I will be away from my family for two weeks. That’s kind of scary but I am ready!
Go Daniella! Have fun and learn a lot this summer! (And Physics, lots of Physics).
I am so excited to see you are interested in medicine !! We need more young talented women to pursue careers in math and science !! Good luck this summer.
