My passion is basketball.
I first discovered my passion when I started to play sports seriously for the first time. There was always a sense of friendly competition in the air when my friends were playing basketball. When I played, I never wanted to fall behind. I wanted to be a threat on the court, a danger to the defense and an asset to my team. Ever since then, I practice so I can continue to grow as a player each day I step onto the court. Attending PGC Essentials camp will help me explore my passion for basketball because it will allow me to work with coaches, which is something I have never done before in basketball. This program will develop me into a better play-maker and improve my overall skill set.
I was diagnosed with an illness called Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 3rd grade and had to miss the majority of a school year. Unlike a regular sickness where you get over it in a few days, this followed me around for years. This camp will help me make up for the time of my life when it wasn't possible for me to do anything sports-related. I want to prove to anyone who has gone through what I've experienced that it is possible to be athletic. I’m obviously not as good as some people who have been playing their whole lives, but I know that I work harder than most and that I can evolve my level of play into a much higher one.
Alex is a very hardworking student. I taught him 9th grade Geometry Honors. Alex is a good candidate for PGC Essentials Camp because he has been working on being well rounded. Over the course of his time at Uncommon Charter High School I have encouraged him to try different things that will allow him to practice being a leader. Since then, he has joined the baseball and wrestling team and participated in other after school functions such as showing up to basketball games. I think giving Alex the opportunity to be a part of another team would serve him well, giving him the additional avenue to exercise teamwork and leadership.
More than anything I've longed for a coach that will help me train at a high level. I worked out everyday of the summer to ensure I would get the most out of my experience at PGC. I loved every aspect of the five days I spent there, even the days I felt like I couldn't keep going. I am forever grateful and PGC has changed the way I play and my mentality about everything on and off the court. Everything I've learned is written in a notebook and I take it every day to practice to ensure I can be better than yesterday and even better tomorrow. This wouldn't be possible without everyone who contributed and I cannot thank you enough.
Alex, I've seen you grow over the past two years and this program is such an amazing opportunity for you, that will allow you to grow even more!
