My passion is agriculture.
Agriculture has been my passion since I could remember. As a little girl, I loved the feeling damp soil in my hands. I was intrigued by animals and begged my parents to buy me a flock of chickens for a whole year when I was nine. I felt like all living things belonged together, and I had a responsibility to care for nature, whether it was an injured bird or a dying sunflower.
Someday, I want to own my own company in the agriculture industry. The Girls Love Science Too program will help me better understand agricultural science. Furthermore, the program will help me continue to develop my leadership skills. At the beginning of the school year, I really wanted to impact my community and school in a positive way, so I started a volunteer club. Since we began in September, we have donated 1,522 meals to children across the world and 149 pounds of food to the homeless during Thanksgiving. I have found myself to be a natural leader at school and I wish to expand my leadership skills at the Girls Love Science Too program.
"Summit Tahoma is a high school that requires students to be extremely self-motivated and self-directed. Athena has impressed me with her ability to set high goals for herself in her academics and follow them through to completion. She is considered to be a hard-working individual who consistently stays on top of her school work.
Athena is truly a self-motivated, compassionate, hard-working student who would make a great addition to Wishbone and the Girls Love Science Too program. This program will give Athena the opportunity to attend a program where she will be able to learn and pursue her goal of owning her own company in the agriculture industry. She is extremely driven, and I have no doubt that she will absorb everything she learns."
I truly had an amazing time at Girls Love Science Too camp. It took place in Monterrey, a place that is now one of my favorite places ever. I had an opportunity of a lifetime to discover. I met many wonderful people including Squid, the coolest camp counselor ever. At sea camp I learned about a type of sea slug called Hopkin's Rose that is surprisingly the softest thing have ever felt while looking out to a stunning view (the ocean). Furthermore I listened to empowered women who told their stories and their knowledge about the ocean at Mbari. The Mbari tour was one of my favorite experiences at camp where I also saw a sea rover. How cool is that? Spoiler alert: the answer is awesome. On the whole, I cant express to my donors how grateful I am for giving me such an opportunity.
Go Athena! I'm excited for this opportunity for you to pursue your passion!
I want to make your dreams come true. (:
