My passion is basketball.
I discovered it during my 9th grade year. Shortly after the football season ended, basketball tryouts began. I watched them, but didn't participate. Until that point I had never picked up a ball, but the coach said he saw my natural athleticism. We started to get together regularly to practice. Under his training I began to get better and more devoted to the game. It invigorates me and makes me feel unstoppable when I'm on the court. At this time though, I still only played basketball as a side sport until I got an opportunity to go to GYUSA for basketball and there the coach told me that I need to try my best because I had the least experience with the sport. This caused me to be determined to be the very best and this is why I love basketball. It pushes me to strive for more.
Dakarai loves basketball. It is what gets him up every morning and to school. It keeps him connected to his peers, allows him to challenge himself, and keeps him motivated. Dakarai sees every opportunity to hold a ball as a way to learn and become a better player. Basketball and sports have allowed him to not only excel on the court, but have shown him that with hard work, dedication and drive he can achieve whatever he puts his mind to, this as a result has transformed his performance in the classroom. He has grown so much as a student athlete over this past year. I would love for Dakarai to continue to grow his talent in basketball as I believe it will yield positive results in all facets of his life. With our school’s limited resources, we are unable to provide him with the opportunity to advance his skills and pursue this passion. The opportunity to participate in the US Sports Nike Basketball Camps will be such a welcomed experience for Dakarai. I would love for him to have the experience of playing with athletes from other schools, refining his ability to work with others, meeting new people outside of his neighborhood, and being able to explore where basketball can take him.
I will be attending the Nike Summer Basketball Camp as my summer program. I am very interested in how it will be because I never have been to a basketball camp. I wonder how drills will be and how the Coaches will run things. Also I am interested to see the type of competition I have out there and how I square up against them.
Lori is a great person and she clearly thinks you're a great person. Best wishes.
Good luck with your program!!
God bless! ♡
I believe in you.
