My passion is sports management.
Since I was a child, I've always enjoyed watching and playing sports--basketball in particular. As I watch ESPN and Sports Center, I start to visualize a plan to have a career that involves talking about or managing sports. While I have a burning desire to play, I have come to the understanding that to be selected for the NBA is very difficult and a rigorous process. Instead of playing professionally, I would rather become a professional agent and help athletes take care of their business off of the court.
With a passion for sports management, Syracuse University Summer College will give me a better understanding of how this business works. The sports industry management program will give me the skills and assets needed to become successful in this field. Most of all, I want to experience, first hand, how agents and marketers handle work throughout a regular day and what the Sports Management curriculum consists of.
"Dashaun is intelligent and performs well academically. In the time that I have known him, I have witnessed an individual with high ambition complemented by genuine modesty. Dashaun is a student who is committed to his academic development, and I am sure that he will thrive at Syracuse University Summer College.
Syracuse University Summer College is a great opportunity for Dashaun to explore his passion and new educational domains. He will graduate from this program with an even deeper commitment to his educational goals."
On the day I arrived on campus, I sensed a new smell and many new opportunities. It smelled very fresh and different from Manhattan. The people who make up the staff of this university made the moving in process very smooth without any headaches. I felt welcomed by both the students and the staff members. Everyone was respectful and seemed interested in my likes and dislikes. My professor, Mr. John Wolohan did a great job of teaching my class a semester's worth of college curriculum in eleven days. He opened my eyes to many new things as far as sports go, and the trips he orchestrated were also informational. Listening to guest speakers, like former Beijing basketball player, Gao Fei, ticket sales manager at Syracuse, Jeremiah Maher, and faculty athletics representative, Rick Burton, really helped me gain more of an understanding of what the management aspect of sports really consists of. They stressed the importance of sports "behind the scenes" rather than actually playing a sport professionally, and that inspired me to follow my path and keep striving to major in this field. At the end of it all, I am sure I will leave this program with knowledge I didn't have before I arrived, and when I get back home I will definitely utilize these skills to my full advantage. Lastly, I want to thank all the people who helped me financially in getting into this program, and I want to let you guys know that it was worth every dollar. I am definitely considering applying to The David Falk Sports Management Program at Syracuse University.
Since a kid, I have had a strong passion for sports, but instead of playing professionally I wish to be responsible for what goes on behind the scenes. I dream to become a Sports Agent, and I believe that Syracuse Summer College can provide me with the tools needed to be successful in this field. Due to the fact that most of Syracuse's athletic teams are known as some of the most elite, it makes it an even better experience for me. During my time at Syracuse Summer College, I hope to develop stronger networking skills, gain knowledge on subjects i'm unfamiliar with, and most of all, experience the lifestyle on an actual college campus. As I become a senior next school year, I believe this program will help me thrive in various tough tasks and provide me with skills needed to succeed in a more advanced classroom setting. I am ready and overly excited to travel to Syracuse University. I have a mindset of taking advantage of every opportunity given to me during the two-week span i'm there, and I hope I can learn from this overwhelming experience.
