My passion is psychology.
During sophomore year of high school I spoke to my teachers about what classes I would take the upcoming school year. When I spoke to my U.S History teacher I told him that I was interested in learning about psychology. He agreed and posed a challenge. He recommended that I take AP Psychology, as I have been taking this class. I really have grown to love it. One of the reasons why I started to love it was because I felt like I was learning more about how people think and how our mindset works. Although class has become challenging, it is one of the classes I really look forward to attending every day.
Jeanine has a passion for people. She is thoughtful and compassionate, and she has a genuine desire to help others. She goes out of her way to support students who are struggling emotionally by helping them stay organized in their academics and by being a kind listener.
Blueprint Summer emphasizes community, innovation, personalized learning, and fun in order to help students prepare for college. This is very much the approach to education that is established in our classroom environment, but I must say that the majority of students aren't comfortable in such a classroom environment--not initially, anyway. Most students are used to much more direct instruction and a standardized approach to education. In order to push them out of their comfort zones, I needed to find student allies who were enthusiastic about the kind of classroom that I was hoping to create. Jeanine was one of those student allies.
I would first like to say thank you to Wishbone, Blueprints Staff Member, UCONN, and lastly Ms. Dardani for providing me with this extremely beneficial, life changing experience.
I would like to say thank you especially to TJ because he really helped me feel confident with my college essay and if it wasn't for his feedback and positivity I would of never had felt that confidence.
A part that I found extremely beneficial throughout the whole week was the Summit, the amount of feedback you get about college, how to do a resume, and talking to college students that are already there because you get all the questions you have answered.
Another thing that I really enjoyed was the energy I felt at UCONN, how natural everything came to me. I didn't expect such a positive environment. I became really close friends to a girl named Emily whom we both ended up being really similar from even wanting to pursue the same career. We even made plans to see each other even after Blueprint and we still stay in contact.
Being in UCONN for a week made me realize how I can accomplish my career and it did push me more to excel in what I decide to pursue in. Lastly but not least I would like to thank you again for allowing me to have this college experience.
Good Afternoon Wishbone Staff Members, Blueprint Staff and donors. This is Jeanine Maldonado. I will first like to say Thank You for giving me the opportunity of attending Blueprints Summer Program this summer to take Psychology courses. I will be leaving July 23 to the 29t and my parents will be dropping me off and picking me up from UCONN.
I will also be taking my computer with some of my Psychology books I used throughout my junior year which can be beneficial if I need some more assistance. Other things I will be planning to take with me to Blueprint will be a notebook, and the notebook I used while I was taking AP Psychology for some backup notes. Not only for that but because I am likely to physically write my notes down then type them out on my computer. This helps me remember them more and I will always have them with me.
Lastly, but the most important thing I will be bringing is my great attitude, and I will bring my positive contributions to UCONN. I really feel that this summer program will open my eyes to see how Psychology is at the College level and getting hands on experience will be so fascinating. Not only that, but taking this course, even if it’s only for a week will really help me make a decision for college regarding what classes I would like to take that would help me in the long run when choosing my majors.
Thank You once again Blueprints Staff Members, Wishbone Staff and my donors for making this dream of mine come true.
