My passion is game design.
Since I was a kid, I have always been interested in video games. in middle school, I took a class where I started to learn how to code. In this class, I had the opportunity to make a game. Our goal was to create a maze game but since I finished early I took my extra time to add in a monster that chased the player through the maze. This monster made my game the most popular in my class and it inspired me to keep making more games for my friends to play in my free time. Later in middle school, we had to chose a career for a project and I knew that game design was what I wanted to follow, ever since then, I've followed game design, whether it be making my own games or learning how some of the more popular recent releases were made.
As much as I enjoy creating smaller games, ever since my first coding class in middle school, I have never had any other actual program to further my ability in game design, I mostly learned through watching Youtube videos and trial and error, but I never had a place to go when I wanted to ask a question. I also worked alone which meant that had to go through any game ideas I had without any advice from peers or any help when actually creating the game. I hope to remedy this by attending iD Tech Camps and learn more about what I need to do as a game designer and learn how to work with an actual team.
Dahriel is an extremely motivated and self-disciplined student. Although he is soft spoken, his words are important and ideas are powerful. I believe that he would benefit by building stronger relationships with others who share his interest. He often plays the role of the quiet leader or voice of reason with his peers, but I would love to see how participating in an experience that allows him to further explore his passions truly highlights the amazing person and student he is.
Although our school has a gaming club, there isn't a focus on game design due to a deficit in staff knowledge and software. Despite this, Dahriel is still active in his pursuit of gaming know-how. He's taken programming classes that may not be a direct link to gaming technology, but better prepares him to understand some of the language and skills required to be a success. By attending iD Tech Camps, Dahriel will have access to resources and opportunities to further his knowledge in the field of game design.
I very much enjoyed my time at id tech camps. I learned even larger of a skillset than what I originally set out for. Now im excited to use these new skills in the coming year. Thanks again for making this all possible.
