More about Olamide

As a little girl, the dream of helping people stay healthy became Olamide’s passion. She discovered that most people in her community have health issues and can’t afford to get the treatment they need. Instead of pitying them, Olamide wants to become a doctor and put hope into their lives. She wants to have her own practice and eventually open a clinic to help underserved citizens in New York City, changing the health care system for the better.

Her next step is the National Student Leadership Conference for Medicine and Health Care. Olamide will spend ten days learning what it takes to become a doctor by touring medical facilities, shadowing clinical rounds and dissecting a heart. All of these skills will help her persevere through pressure and stay determined in her dream to become a doctor.

Her sponsor teacher says that Olamide continually finds intrinsic motivation to succeed: she’s a determined student with excellent communication skills, and she’s consistently been at the top of her class academically.
